Each fall, DCPA Education carefully selects a beloved children's book to bring to life on stage. Complete with full production values, these stories are often a child's very first exposure to live theatre. Past titles have included Elephant & Piggie's "We Are In A Play!", Corduroy, Good Night Moon and Little Red. Perfect for PreK-3rd grade. Pre- and post-show activities are available. This annual ceremony encourages, celebrates and rewards outstanding achievements in high school musical theatre throughout Colorado while offering a chance at recognition on the national scale. Schools may nominate their annual student productions each fall. Only the first 50 schools will be accepted. The program culminates in a ceremony at the Denver Performing Arts Complex each May.

Bring Book Stars to your classroom! Book Stars encourages PreK and K students to use their bodies, voices and imaginations to explore classic and soon-to-be classic children’s picture books. Students are introduced to a book and then immersed in its themes and situations. Students become characters and solve problems through theatrical play as they bring literacy concepts to life, including print motivation, print awareness, letter knowledge and phonological awareness.

Each year the DCPA is proud to partner with Denver Public Schools to welcome 5,000 students of all ages to the DPS Shakespeare Festival. To prepare for the day-long event, the DCPA offers in-school workshops throughout the Denver school district and beyond. Then, each April, students fill downtown's Arts Complex and perform scenes and sonnets from the works of William Shakespeare as well as demonstrate dances, songs and music of his era.

Dramatic Learning™ is a tailored in-school program, which uses theatre exercises to teach any curriculum (history, poetry, science, math, etc.). Workshops are led by experienced teaching artists who address multiple learning styles and require full participation from students and teachers. Calling all educators! The Denver Center for the Performing Arts offers free playwriting workshops for middle and high school students. Workshops are a great precursor to the DCPA’s annual Playwriting Competition, which culminates in public, staged readings of three winning scripts plus cash prizes! All workshops are:

Each fall and spring, we deliver first-class Shakespearean performances and workshops for your school across the state including Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth, right in your school’s parking lot. Then the cast moves into classrooms to facilitate workshops to start conversations that closely examine how the play’s themes resonate within both contemporary issues and the high school experience.

Give your kids something fun and rewarding to do. We offer fun-filled and educational acting classes for all ages. Whether your student just wants to have fun or is ready for master-level instruction, we have the perfect courses to help them grow and thrive. No experience necessary. Fall, Winter and Spring classes take place Saturdays for 7-8 weeks. Summer session features one and two-week acting camps from Monday through Friday. Payment plans available.

Does your teen love theatre? Talk to them about taking one of our classes for high schoolers and middle schoolers. Teens can hone their skills in acting foundations, improv, camera work, musical theatre, and more! Fall, Winter & Spring classes last seven to eight weeks and are every Saturday. Summer camps are Monday-Friday for one or two weeks. Payment plans available
