RISE (Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability & Equity) 40.5919° N -73.7883° W

Description

Established in 2005, RISE (Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability & Equity) leads initiatives created “by the community, for the community.” We see potential in people and places that are often overlooked or marginalized. From our first community-led planning effort, which led to the creation of a 28-acre waterfront park on a lot that had been an illegal dumping ground, to our recent work transforming a dilapidated firehouse in the heart of Far Rockaway into a hub for youth and community programming, RISE brings people of all ages together to learn to appreciate the natural and built environment of the Rockaway peninsula in southeast Queens.

Lunch can be eaten on RISE's main floor or on the picnic tables outside in the Rockaway Hip-Hop Community Garden.
