Description

The Fairmount Waterworks was Philadelphia's only pumping station when it opened in 1815. It was active for nearly a century before being decommissioned. It is now the Delaware River Basin’s Official Watershed Education Center and Gateway Center for the Schuylkill River National and State Heritage Area. At the center, students can participate in a variety of field experiences including the Wondrous World of Water, Understanding the Urban Watershed and Seeing is Believing.
