Kansas City Young Audiences (KCYA) is a non-profit organization with more than 60 years of enriching children's lives through the arts. Our mission is to engage all youth in the arts, promote creativity, and inspire success in education.
KCYA provides two types of arts education programs for children and youth. First, our original line of programming, involves professional teaching artists using arts integration techniques to develop and deliver arts programs that reinforce the work of the classroom teacher. The arts engage students and help make the lessons 'stick'. These programs come to your school, library, or community center. Performances are geared for up to 250 students in an auditorium or gymnasium. Workshops, designed to be highly interactive, take place in your classroom for groups of 30 or fewer. Residencies pair the same artist with the same group of students for multiple sessions to deepen the impact. All are designed to engage your students, to connect the art form to the curriculum, and to enhance student learning.
KCYA also runs the Community School of the Arts (on Main Street) where children come to learn more about the arts in classes and camps in music, dance, theatre, and the visual arts. The Community School of the Arts classes help students learn new skills in their chosen art form, but beyond the arts, our classes help students learn and explore their own creativity, self-discipline, communication and collaboritive skills, which will enhance their lives both in and out of the classroom.
We believe EVERY CHILD deserves the TRANSFORMATIONAL spark the arts ignite!
