Description

The stories of Johnstown — immigration, the steel industry and more — shaped the history of America as it became a modern industrial nation. The Heritage Discovery Center brings this rich history to life through a linked system of attractions and historic districts. The Center is also home to the Johnstown Children's Museum, designed to tell the story of Johnstown to younger audiences through interactive exhibits and activities.


Lunch Notes

Kids are welcome to bring and eat lunch in our Education Center on the first floor. There is also a Subway down the street that can accommodate carry-out and delivery orders.

Bathrooms are located on the first, second, and third floors.

Field trip to Heritage Discovery Center

Learn about America's immigration and industrial city through the story of Johnstown, PA. One of the largest steel centers in the United States during the 19th century, this city attracted immigrants from the world who created a vibrant and unique ethnic culture. Learn about how immigrants transitioned to life in America in our first-floor exhibit, see the film "The Mystery of Steel" to learn about Johnstown's industry, and see many other unique aspects of Johnstown history, including Morley's Dog, Glosser Bros., and more.
