School Notification – March 2022
Student Art Buying - July 1, 2022

What is the Student Art Buying Program:
Students explore the world of art in a classroom module that culminates in a hands on art buying experience at the world renowned Cherry Creek Arts Festival. Through the program, students learn and practice valuable skills such as teamwork, negotiation, art appreciation, art-buying, public speaking, and more.

This unique opportunity features:
-Each participating school will receive an in-class Study Guide and lesson plan with curriculum and exercises to help students understand and appreciate art as more than a personal preference, but also as a reflection of culture and as a business.
-Teachers and students are encouraged to include the entire student body in exploring what kind of art would be appropriate and appreciated in their building.
-Schools are then invited to select three students to represent their student body.
-These young ARTrepreneurs will be given a budget to select and purchase art for permanent installation in their school.
-Students will then engage with artists onsite at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and purchase artwork that day!

Mobile Art Gallery

The Mobile Art Gallery consists of original works of art from exhibiting artists and tours perpetually throughout Colorado to schools, libraries, community centers and other public venues. MAG provides entrance to the visual arts in an accessible, non-threatening setting and introduces the public to various art forms through exhibition of original artwork for a duration of two weeks. The gallery is accessible to the entire student body and 30 students are taught how to be Docents of the gallery as well.

The Mobile Art Gallery Docent Program creates ownership and actively engages students in the Mobile Art Gallery, which is essential to a quality educational experience. Students at each school are trained as docents to give tours of the Gallery to the student body and school community. The docents are instructed on medium, technique and process of each two- and three-dimensional piece in the exhibits. Artist biographies and artist statements also give background to the work and aid interpretation. In addition, each work of art is accompanied by a ‘take away’ educational piece written in both English and Spanish.

CherryArts is committed to involving the students and local community at each MAG residency. Students are actively engaged in the Mobile Art Gallery from its installation, to handling the art and to dismantling the exhibition. Student docents are trained to give tours of the Gallery to the student body and school community. Each school offers a Community Night whereby parents, school board members and the local community are invited to view the Gallery and take a docent-led tour. In an effort to expand outreach to the larger community, many schools open their doors to senior citizen centers, feeder schools and local arts groups to view the exhibit.
