World-Building for Sci-Fi and Fantasy

Description

Many of us love to get lost in fictional worlds like the Star Wars Universe, or the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, or countless original video game settings. In this workshop, encourage your students to stretch their creativity and create worlds of their own, perfect for a fantasy or sci-fi book, comic, movie, or game!

25 min- Professional artists, writers, and designers will walk your students through the process of world-design, using established worlds and characters as examples.
15 min - PCC instructors will guide your group through the world-creation process collaboratively using mind-maps and pre-generated questions.
35 min - Students will work independently or in small groups to create a sci-fi or fantasy world of their own using mind-mapping and pre-generated questions.
45 min - Students will work independently to create a rendering of an element from the world they created. For example, a student can render a costume that a character might wear, or an environment, or an object. Depending on their interest, they can think of their design as being for a comic, film, play, or video game.

This experience is highly-customizable for different ages.
Workshop capacity depends on school staffing and set-up.
