Description
A field trip that comes to you!
Watch the water cycle come to life and explore watersheds with state-of-the-art models! Students will learn all about their local watershed and what they can do to protect it. A great tie-in to social studies and science topics. This can be scheduled for multiple programs throughout the school day.
Our recommended capacity for in-school programs is 30 students to ensure everyone gets the best hands-on experience, but they can also be done as an auditorium style presentation for larger groups.
This program is free for 5th grade classes in Rockford city limits. Funded by Four Rivers Sanitation Authority and the City of Rockford Public Works.

Wild Roots Nature Center
Wild Roots Nature Center at Severson Dells Forest Preserve sits on 369 acres of prairie, savanna, and forest and features a winding creek lined with ancient rock walls. The land and lodge were donated to the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County by Harry and Fannie Severson in 1975, and the Nature Center was established in 1976. Our mission is to inspire conservation of nature through education and stewardship, cultivating connections between people and place.
Your group leaders will include our staff, AmeriCorps service members, and fabulous volunteers.
