The Printing Press

Description

The printing press made it possible to spread knowledge like never before. In this workshop students will learn about how the printing press democratized knowledge and participate in a printing press demonstration. They will leave the workshop with an understanding of how a single machine revolutionized an industry. This is a wonderful compliment to an industrial revolution unit, a world history unit, or a social justice unit.

Offered At

The Book Binding Museum

Long before the internet, books began to democratize knowledge throughout the world. The Book Binding museum is dedicated to engaging people of all ages in the history and creation of books. Students visiting the museum will learn the book making process and be able to turn a story of their own into a real book to take home. Be sure to join us on the first Saturday of each month, when renowned book preservationist Carla Montori will be presenting the history of book preservation in the United States.
