Teacher Trunk - St. Vrain Settlers

Description

Students are able to make stronger connections with objects and concepts when they engage with the Museum’s outreach Teacher Trunk prior to their visit. Enhance your students’ learning experience by checking out a Teacher Trunk to use in your classroom. Explore how St. Vrain and the area came to be. From the Chicago Colony to statehood this trunk looks into the lives of settlers. This trunk contains lesson plans and activities to go along with the artifacts. Artifacts in this kit are: lantern, Seth Terry letter, Stereoscope and cards, doll quilt, cream skimmer, calico bonnet and apron, Colorado territory flag, slate board and pencil, McGuffey’s Third Eclectic Reader and Spelling Eclectic books, dipper, buffalo horn, Chicago-Colorado Colony map, membership certificate, marbles, jacks, and spin tops.

Offered At

Longmont Museum

The Longmont Museum was founded in 1936, and has moved to a variety of locations throughout its existence. Now located at 400 Quail Road, just east of Main Street in south Longmont, the Longmont Museum invites visitors to come and see our regularly changing exhibits, experience our education programs, and enjoy the views from our Longs Peak Room tower. Regional history, internationally-known artists, and explorations of culture are all part of the mix of exhibitions at the Longmont Museum. Permanent exhibits document the 14,000 years of human history in Longmont, and the people who helped to create this community. Special exhibits in our Main Gallery and in our Portal Gallery change frequently, so there is always something new to see. The Longmont Museum also has a variety of education programs for all ages. We have ongoing programs, such as our "Discovery Days" program for ages 2-6 and a caregiver, Thursday night Art & Sips for adults, and our annual summer camps for kids. We also offer programs in conjunction with our current exhibits, and programs for school groups.
