Each year, Lyric Opera of Kansas City invites students to attend a final dress rehearsal at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts where they are enthralled by the music and drama of the opera.
Prior to the dress rehearsal, teachers receive access to curricular resources to ensure students are prepared for the experience. To deepen learning, teachers may schedule a Lyric Opera Prelude leading up to the dress rehearsal.
Rossini’s RomCom romp follows hopeless romantic Count Almaviva through a plot that unfolds like an operatic obstacle course. With the help of Figaro, a former servant turned barber, Almaviva attempts to run off with his true love, Rosina, before her soon-to-be forced marriage to the scheming Dr. Bartolo. What starts as a simple plan becomes an elaborate comedy of errors. Even first-time operagoers will spend the night exclaiming, “Hey, that’s that one song from that one thing!”
Founded in 1958, Lyric Opera of Kansas City is one of the nation's premier regional opera companies. Our mission is to make Lyric Opera of Kansas City indispensable to the public through transformational opera experiences and broad service which captures the hearts and minds of our diverse communities.
