Quinnetukut: Stories of Survival

Description

This Online program introduces students to the lives of Native Americans in the past and present. Students will examine depictions of a Native village and describe significant roles within a community. They will discuss how the environment shaped daily life and what natural resources were necessary for survival. Students will also experience how stories were used to teach important lessons.

The Institute For American Indian Studies

The Institute for American Indian Studies (IAIS) is a museum and research center in Washington, CT dedicated to preserving and educating about the diverse traditions, vitality, and knowledge of Native American cultures. The museum is nestled on 15 acres of woodlands and trails, complete with an outdoor 16th Century Replicated Algonkian Village, Three Sisters Garden, and Healing Plants Garden. Our interdisciplinary school programs are designed with the CT and NY State Standards in mind to encourage discussions and provide interactive learning through hands-on activities either at our facility or yours.
