Pioneer Day at Kammer Log Cabin

Description

Step back in time and spend a day learning what life would have been like as a pioneer in Michigan in our authentic 1850’s log cabin. In this program, you will participate in a variety of activities and chores that children did during the time period, including making soup, candles, tin punch craft, writing with a quill and ink, and playing pioneer games. This is a 4 hour program which includes a tour of the Carnegie Museum.

Minimum payment of $120 per classroom required. This program can also be held in your own classroom!

Pioneer Days are held in our Kammer log cabin May 1st - October 31st, weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, your Pioneer Day may be moved inside the Carnegie Museum. Pioneer Days held outside of this timeframe will be held inside our Carnegie Museum.

Carnegie Museum

Constructed in 1904 by Pittsburgh-based steel magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie for $45,000, originally built as the Port Huron Public Library is now the Carnegie. Through the dedicated efforts of concerned volunteers, the Museum of Arts & History opened its doors on May 3, 1968. The Port Huron Museum is proud to have our maritime gallery (with one of the largest model ship collections in Michigan), our From Whence We Came: Black History in the Blue Water Area Exhibit, our Indigenous peoples display, and our music room. There are also several rotating exhibits that change through the year. The galleries blend hands-on experiences with traditional museum displays. This site is fully ADA accessible.
