Living Lab: Watershed Chemistry (Grades 6 - 8)

Description

Students will visit a local wetland to sample current conditions. Learn the importance of variables such as salinity, pH, turbidity, and oxygen when it comes to monitoring the health of an ecosystem!

This is a station-based program, with some stations being led by Living Coast staff members and docents. If docents are unavailable, classroom teachers and/or chaperones are required to lead stations using provided resources. Exact program schedule and stations varies by group size and program type. Maximum of 3 classes per day (96 students).

Living Coast Discovery Center

The Living Coast Discovery Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit zoo and aquarium located on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Founded in 1987 as the Chula Vista Nature Interpretive Center, we have served the San Diego community for over 30 years. The Living Coast Discovery Center is home to many native San Diego species including sharks, fish, lizards, and birds of prey. Students will have the opportunity to visit our animal ambassadors and explore the Sweetwater Marsh through trail exploration.
