Take a trip to GrowNYCs Teaching Garden on Governors Island! Students will see the farm and participate in age-appropriate hands-on garden education. All students will get a chance to taste some seasonal fruits, veggies, or herbs and will help with a garden activity (either planting a seed or transplant, sifting and spreading compost, or whatever task is needed for the farm that day). Students may also participate in a scavenger hunt, worm exploration, or seed ball lesson.
GrowNYC's Governors Island Teaching Garden is a 21,000 square foot urban farm that aims to engage, excite, and educate its visitors in all aspects of urban farming. Field trips are available from May-June & October-November for NYC students (K-12), who have the opportunity to plant, water, harvest, and taste the garden's wide array of vegetables, herbs, and fruits.
Please Note: Field trips to Governors Island Teaching Garden require a 10-15 minute ferry ride that departs promptly at 10:00am and 11:00am from the Battery Maritime Building. The garden is a 15-to-20-minute walk from the ferry.
