Lehman College Art Gallery offers a variety of programs for children, teachers, and families. Located in a spectacular building designed by renowned architect Marcel Breuer, the gallery’s exhibitions and workshops provide an introduction to art.
Students analyze, interpret, and share their reactions to the works on view in the gallery and make art in the studio. Schools can also select to have teaching artists come to their school. Programs range from single visit workshops to series of 3 – 12 sessions and can include professional development workshops for teachers. Programs offer exciting studio and in-class projects such as large-scale mosaics, tile paintings, and murals, which become permanent installations at the schools, as well as sculpture, painting, drawing and printmaking. Projects are developed in collaboration with the school and may include hands-on studio projects, gallery discussions, writing activities, art history, and sessions with artists from the exhibition.
In addition to our school programs, bilingual (Spanish/English) Saturday workshops for children and their families are offered free to the community throughout the school year. The gallery’s unique location on a college campus offers many resources as well as important role models for young students.
