Art in books supports the story in many ways. In this workshop, students will learn why and how early printers and book binders included art in their books. Later, students will have the chance to create an illustration for a read-aloud story. These illustrations will be bound together as a classroom book.
Long before the internet, books began to democratize knowledge throughout the world. The Book Binding museum is dedicated to engaging people of all ages in the history and creation of books. Students visiting the museum will learn the book making process and be able to turn a story of their own into a real book to take home. Be sure to join us on the first Saturday of each month, when renowned book preservationist Carla Montori will be presenting the history of book preservation in the United States.
