Alice Paul: Through the Lens of Leadership
Description
This two-hour program offers deep engagement with Alice’s struggle to secure women’s suffrage, and the strategies and tactics that made her such a powerful leader. Students participate in meaningful discussions about leadership and social action, and then do a group activity that challenges them to apply those principles to real-world issues.

The Alice Paul Institute (API) is located in Historic Paulsdale, the farm where Alice Paul was born and raised. Now a National Historic Landmark, Paulsdale is one of only 4% of all such designated places that honors the life and work of a woman. There are no others in the region honoring a woman that are open for public visitation. The 6 acre grounds were once a nearly 200 acre farm belonging to the Paul family.
API was founded in 1984 to honor the legacy of Alice Paul’s work for gender equality through education and leadership development. Our programs train the next generation of leaders who, like Alice, will strive to make the world more equal for all people. We highlight Alice and other trailblazers in leadership development and civic engagement programs for people of all ages. API continues to advocate for the Equal Rights Amendment which, when finalized, will give equal legal protections to people of all genders.
