Groups will receive an introduction from a Museum educator, and then explore any of the Museum’s general-admission exhibitions with their teachers and chaperones. The whole museum can be experienced in an hour and a half, and self-guided groups are welcome to stay for up to two hours.
Students must be accompanied by chaperones at all times during self-guided visits.
The Museum now has limited in-person Behind the Screen and Jim Henson tours for 30 people max. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays as well as limited self-guided visits for bigger groups. We are still offering virtual field trips and virtual media workshops! Scroll all the way down down for booking options and prices.
Museum of the Moving Image is the country's only museum dedicated to the art, history, technique, and technology of the moving image in all its forms. Embracing a wide range of subjects, from nineteenth century optical toys to the latest in digital art, the Museum explores every phase of the production, promotion, and exhibition of moving images. Students visiting the museum can take part in an interactive tour of movie making history in the core exhibition "Behind the Screen," a visit to "The Jim Henson Exhibition," and/or join a variety of multimedia workshops and screening programs.
We are thrilled to announce a full portfolio of virtual fieldtrips and virtual media workshops, adaptable to any age group and subject matter. As we renovate our building for the safety of all visitors, we are currently offering virtual educational programming only, but stay tuned to our website for updates on when we will return to offering in-person tours and workshops (www.movingimage.us/education).
Please note: As of May 17, 2022: The City has raised its COVID alert level to "High," the Museum will require all visitors to wear face masks throughout the building. Learn more about the Museum’s safety guidelines here:
