The African Burial Ground is one of the earliest and largest know African cemeteries dating back from the 1690’s through 1794. The 6.6 acre burial ground was rediscovered in 1999 and is one of the most important archaeological finds of our time. It provides a rich history of early American Africans, both free and enslaved. The National Parks Service provides guided tours (by reservation for more than 10 people) or will come to your school for an off-site presentation.
