SUMMER: Behind the Screen Tour

Description

PLEASE NOTE: This is the tour for Behind the Screen only. This option does not include the Jim Henson Exhibition or the supplementary workshops. If you would like your students to see a film or participate in a workshop, please select the correct option from the main page.

Students learn about how moving images are made, marketed, and shown, while discovering the many careers open to them in the moving-image industries. Under the guidance of a Museum educator, students actively explore and discuss artifacts and artworks, and experiment with hands-on interactive experiences and demonstrations. This tour serves as an ideal introduction to the Museum and its collection, and discussions can be focused to address the class’ specific curricular needs.

Offered At

Museum Of The Moving Image

The Museum now has limited in-person Behind the Screen and Jim Henson tours for 60 students max. on Wednesdays (2nd and 4th of each month), Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. As well as limited self-guided visits for larger groups, up to 80 students max. Note: The self-guided option is only available for 7th Graders (12-13 y.olds) and up. It is not suitable or recommended for younger groups. During summer months, the self-guided option is more limited due to our own summer camp programming and will be reviewed case-by-case.

We are still offering virtual field trips and virtual media workshops! Scroll all the way down down for booking options and prices.

We are only accepting one visit per school per day, due to staffing and scheduling limations. If you request more than one visit each day, the second trip will be automatically declined. Thank you for your understanding.

Museum of the Moving Image is the country's only museum dedicated to the art, history, technique, and technology of the moving image in all its forms. Embracing a wide range of subjects, from nineteenth century optical toys to the latest in digital art, the Museum explores every phase of the production, promotion, and exhibition of moving images. Students visiting the museum can take part in an interactive tour of movie making history in the core exhibition "Behind the Screen," a visit to "The Jim Henson Exhibition," and/or join a variety of multimedia workshops and screening programs.

We are thrilled to announce a full portfolio of fieldtrips and media workshops, both in-person and virtual, adaptable to any age group and subject matter. The listings below will prioritize our in-person options as we rebuild our education and museum programming. Please email education@movingimage.org for virtual availability and options!
